Be cunning, play smart, and become versed in craps the ideal way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is approximately a century old. Modern craps evolved from the 12th Century Anglo game called Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the beginnings of the game, however Hazard is said to have been discovered by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, in the twelfth century. It’s supposed that Sir William’s horsemen bet on Hazard through a siege on the fortification Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was derived from the fortress’s name.

Early French colonizers imported the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 1700s, when displaced by the English, the French relocated south and found safety in southern Louisiana where they after a while became known as Cajuns. When they were driven out of Acadia, they brought their favored game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it fair mathematically. It’s said that the Cajuns adjusted the name to craps, which was derived from the term for the bad luck toss of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi riverboats and throughout the country. A few acknowledge the dice builder John H. Winn as the father of current craps. In 1907, Winn designed the current craps layout. He appended the Do not Pass line so players can bet on the dice to not win. Later, he created the spots for Place wagers and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
