Be brilliant, play smart, and discover how to play craps the correct way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes all the way back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but modern craps is only about a century old. Current craps developed from the old English game referred to as Hazard. Nobody knows for sure the ancestry of the game, but Hazard is believed to have been made up by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, around the twelfth century. It’s believed that Sir William’s paladins played Hazard amid a blockade on the citadel Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was acquired from the fortress’s name.

Early French colonists brought the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 18th century, when displaced by the British, the French moved south and settled in the south of Louisiana where they after a while became known as Cajuns. When they fled Acadia, they took their favorite game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns simplified the game and made it fair mathematically. It is said that the Cajuns changed the name to craps, which was gotten from the name of the bad luck throw of 2 in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi river boats and throughout the country. A great many think the dice builder John H. Winn as the founder of modern craps. In the early 1900s, Winn created the current craps setup. He put in place the Do not Pass line so gamblers can wager on the dice to not win. Later, he designed the boxes for Place bets and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
