Be smart, play clever, and discover how to play craps the ideal way!

Dice and dice games date all the way back to the Crusades, but current craps is just about a century old. Current craps developed from the ancient English game referred to as Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the origin of the game, however Hazard is believed to have been invented by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, around the twelfth century. It’s supposed that Sir William’s knights bet on Hazard through a siege on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was derived from the fortress’s name.

Early French settlers brought the game Hazard to Canada. In the 1700s, when driven away by the British, the French moved down south and located safety in southern Louisiana where they at a later time became known as Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they brought their favored game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns simplified the game and made it fair mathematically. It’s said that the Cajuns changed the name to craps, which was gotten from the term for the losing throw of 2 in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi barges and across the country. A few consider the dice maker John H. Winn as the founder of modern craps. In the early 1900s, Winn developed the current craps layout. He appended the Don’t Pass line so players could wager on the dice to not win. Afterwords, he developed the spaces for Place wagers and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
