Be cunning, play brilliant, and learn how to play craps the proper way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes back to the Crusades, but current craps is approximately 100 years old. Current craps developed from the old Anglo game referred to as Hazard. No one absolutely knows the origin of the game, but Hazard is believed to have been discovered by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the twelfth century. It is presumed that Sir William’s knights gambled on Hazard through a siege on the citadel Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was derived from the castle’s name.

Early French colonists brought the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 1700s, when expelled by the British, the French headed down south and located refuge in southern Louisiana where they a while later became known as Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they brought their best-loved game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns simplified the game and made it mathematically fair. It is said that the Cajuns altered the name to craps, which was gotten from the name of the bad luck toss of 2 in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi barges and across the nation. A great many think the dice builder John H. Winn as the creator of modern craps. In the early 1900s, Winn assembled the current craps setup. He added the Don’t Pass line so gamblers can wager on the dice to lose. At another time, he designed the spaces for Place wagers and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
