Be cunning, play brilliant, and discover how to play craps the ideal way!

Dice and dice games goes all the way back to the Crusades, but current craps is just about 100 years old. Current craps come about from the old English game referred to as Hazard. Nobody knows for certain the beginnings of the game, although Hazard is said to have been invented by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, around the twelfth century. It’s presumed that Sir William’s knights enjoyed Hazard during a siege on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was acquired from the citadel’s name.

Early French colonists imported the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 1700s, when driven away by the British, the French headed south and settled in the south of Louisiana where they eventually became known as Cajuns. When they fled Acadia, they brought their best-loved game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns modernized the game and made it mathematically fair. It’s believed that the Cajuns adjusted the title to craps, which was acquired from the name of the losing toss of 2 in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi riverboats and throughout the country. A few consider the dice maker John H. Winn as the father of current craps. In the early 1900s, Winn assembled the current craps setup. He appended the Don’t Pass line so gamblers could wager on the dice to lose. Afterwords, he developed the spaces for Place wagers and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
