Be brilliant, play brilliant, and become versed in craps the correct way!
Dice and dice games date all the way back to the Crusades, but current craps is only about 100 years old. Modern craps evolved from the old Anglo game referred to as Hazard. No one absolutely knows the beginnings of the game, but Hazard is believed to have been discovered by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, around the 12th century. It is supposed that Sir William’s paladins bet on Hazard during a blockade on the citadel Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was derived from the fortress’s name.
Early French colonists imported the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 1700s, when banished by the British, the French relocated south and settled in the south of Louisiana where they after a while became known as Cajuns. When they fled Acadia, they brought their best-loved game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns streamlined the game and made it fair mathematically. It’s said that the Cajuns altered the title to craps, which is acquired from the name of the losing throw of 2 in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi riverboats and throughout the country. Most consider the dice maker John H. Winn as the creator of current craps. In the early 1900s, Winn created the current craps setup. He created the Don’t Pass line so players can wager on the dice to not win. Later, he established the spots for Place bets and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
