Be brilliant, play clever, and discover how to play craps the proper way!

Dice and dice games date all the way back to the Crusades, but modern craps is approximately a century old. Current craps developed from the old Anglo game referred to as Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the ancestry of the game, although Hazard is believed to have been invented by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the 12th century. It’s presumed that Sir William’s soldiers wagered on Hazard during a siege on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was gotten from the fortress’s name.

Early French colonists imported the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 18th century, when banished by the English, the French relocated south and settled in the south of Louisiana where they after a while became Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they brought their best-loved game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns streamlined the game and made it more mathematically fair. It’s said that the Cajuns changed the title to craps, which was derived from the term for the losing throw of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi scows and across the nation. Most consider the dice builder John H. Winn as the father of modern craps. In the early 1900s, Winn developed the modern craps layout. He put in place the Don’t Pass line so gamblers can bet on the dice to lose. Later, he designed the spots for Place wagers and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
